For students

Finish your thesis with citations you can defend.

Get a source suggested for every claim, catch fake or wrong references before your supervisor does, and walk into your defense having practised the hard questions. PaperQED checks your sources and explains the papers behind them.

A semester with Rina

Rina Kartika

Undergraduate student writing her thesis

Fictional persona.

Rina is in her final year and writing Chapter 2 of her thesis on the digital literacy of first-year students. English isn't her first language, she prefers sources she can read quickly, and once found out that references a chatbot gave her did not exist.

Before

  • Finds out at a guidance meeting that two references she copied from a chatbot don't exist.
  • Gets her draft back full of "source?" notes from her supervisor.
  • Cites English papers after reading only the abstract, and hopes nobody asks.
  • Rehearses the defense alone, guessing what the examiners will ask.

With PaperQED

  • Pastes her bibliography and sees which entries are verified, have wrong data or can't be found.
  • Sees a wavy underline on every claim that still needs a source, before her supervisor does.
  • Reads each paper with an explainer at her level, linked to the original paragraphs.
  • Practises with an examiner that asks about her own draft and shows which sections to strengthen.

What you get

What PaperQED gives you from chapter 1 to the defense.

Citation suggestions: a source for every claim that needs one

Write your chapter as usual. When a sentence states a fact without a source, PaperQED suggests papers that back it and shows the passage that matters. Pick one, and the citation and bibliography entry are added in your campus style.

  • Every suggestion shows the passage that backs your sentence, so you cite what the paper really says.
  • Search in Indonesian and get English sources too.
  • One click adds the citation and the bibliography entry in APA 7, IEEE or your campus style.
  • Every suggested paper is a real, indexed paper, never one made up by AI.

Reference check: catch fake and wrong references first

Paste your bibliography or upload a DOCX, PDF, BibTeX or RIS file. Each entry is matched against Crossref, OpenAlex and Semantic Scholar and gets one clear status.

  • Four plain statuses: verified, data mismatch, not found, or unverifiable for local books and reports.
  • Wrong year or author? See exactly what differs and accept the correct record in one click.
  • Retracted papers and preprints are flagged before an examiner spots them.
  • Reads APA, IEEE, Harvard, Vancouver, MLA and messy mixed formats.

Claim detector and verification, right where you write

Write as usual. A sentence that states a fact without a source gets a wavy underline, like a spell checker. Add a citation and PaperQED checks whether the paper really says what you wrote.

  • Know which sentences need a citation, and why, before your supervisor writes "source?".
  • Every label comes with the verbatim passage from the paper and its page or section.
  • Catches overclaiming: the paper says "is associated with", your sentence says "proves".
  • Search in your own language and get English sources too. Abstract translations help you read papers in other languages.

A Citation Integrity Report to attach to your submission

One PDF that sums up your references: statuses, retractions, source quality, claims without a citation and verification results. Each report carries a code anyone can check.

  • Show the work behind your bibliography instead of just saying you checked it.
  • A verification code on every report shows it hasn't been edited.
  • You decide who sees it. Nothing reaches your supervisor unless you allow it.

A tutor that asks before it tells

Stuck on a method or a theory? The tutor replies with questions and hints grounded in the papers in your library, so you understand a source instead of quoting it blindly.

  • Ask what a result means and get a hint that points to the right passage.
  • Every explanation links back to the original paragraph in the paper.
  • Explanations in your own language, pitched at undergraduate level.

Quizzes and flashcards from the papers you've read

Turn your library into short quizzes and flashcards, so the key ideas of your sources stick before guidance meetings and the defense.

  • Questions come from your own sources, not from a generic question bank.
  • Each answer points to the passage it came from.
  • Short sessions you can fit between classes.

Defense simulation: meet the hard questions before the panel does

An examiner built from your own draft and sources asks the questions a panel is likely to ask. It presses with follow-up questions and shows which sections of your thesis to strengthen.

  • Questions about your chapters, your method and your sources, not a generic list.
  • Follow-up questions push you the way a real examiner would.
  • A list of passages to revise before the day, each one click away from the editor.
  • Practise as often as you like, at your own pace, without an audience.

From chapter 1 to the defense

How Rina's semester runs with PaperQED.

  1. Step 1: Collect your sources

Add DOIs, PDFs or a BibTeX/RIS file to your library, or start from the list you already have.

  2. Step 2: Check the bibliography

Find wrong and missing references in one pass and fix them before anyone else sees them.

  3. Step 3: Write chapter 2, verified as you go

Underlined claims tell you where a source is missing; verification tells you whether your source holds up.

  4. Step 4: Share the report

Attach the Citation Integrity Report to your submission, or let your supervisor see it in their dashboard.

  5. Step 5: Rehearse the defense

Answer the examiner's questions out loud, then revise the sections it points to.

Questions

  • Is using PaperQED cheating?

No. PaperQED checks your references, flags claims that need a source and explains papers, so you can show where every claim comes from. Campuses set their own rules on AI tools, so check yours. Campuses can also set a student policy with guided explanations and questions.

  • Will my supervisor see what I do?

Only what you choose to share. Your supervisor sees your Citation Integrity Report after you give permission, and you can withdraw it at any time. Your drafts are never shared automatically.

  • What about AI detectors?

PaperQED isn't an AI detector, and we can't promise what any detector will say. What helps more is evidence of your process: real sources, verified quotes and a report your supervisor can check.

  • Which citation styles does it support?

Citations are formatted with CSL, so APA 7, IEEE, Harvard, Vancouver, MLA and thousands of other styles work. The reference check also reads messy, mixed formats. If your campus publishes its own citation template, it appears in your style list.

  • Does it find sources in my language?

You can search in your own language and get English sources, or the other way round, and filter results by language. Local books and government reports are marked "unverifiable" rather than "not found".
